Township awards contract for construction of new multi-use fields at Cherry Hill East, West

(Cherry Hill, N.J.) – Plans for new multi-use athletic fields at both of Cherry Hill’s public high schools took a major step forward on Monday night, with Township Council awarding a contract for construction.

Work is expected to begin in late spring, with an anticipated completion date in fall 2016.

The project includes the construction of new turf fields at Cherry Hill High School East and High School West, for use by the schools’ Football, Soccer, Lacrosse and Field Hockey programs, as well as track and field improvements at both schools. The facilities would be open for use by the Township and the public, when not in use by the District.

“Our goal throughout this process has been to provide our student-athletes with access to first-rate, competitive facilities that will benefit our students and the entire community,” said Cherry Hill Mayor Chuck Cahn. “I have no doubt this project will prove to be a positive investment for our entire community, and I look forward to breaking ground in the coming months.”

The project, part of Mayor Cahn’s ongoing commitment to supporting Cherry Hill Public Schools and to improving recreational facilities and opportunities across the community, is a shared-service partnership between the Township and Cherry Hill Board of Education.

“We are pleased that the turf fields project is moving ahead as scheduled and look forward to the positive impact the new fields will have for our students, their families and the larger community,” said Dr. Joseph Meloche, Superintendent of the Cherry Hill Public Schools.

Turf fields provide numerous advantages to natural grass fields, including enhanced safety, lower annual maintenance costs, more competitive play and increased playability. In addition to the turf installation, work will include track and field improvements, drainage improvements, netting and new D-zones.
